The Carpathian mountains
The Carpathian mountains are one of Europe’s great highland arcs. They run through several countries; the Western Carpathians alone include the Tatra mountains and the Beskid/Beskidy foothills and forest ridges that frame much of southern Poland and northern Slovakia.
In Poland that means the High Tatras near Zakopane and the Beskid Żywiecki and neighbouring Beskidy further west, the country we ride and hike from Milówka. Further east and south the arc continues through Ukraine and Romania. Our name CarpathianPrints looks to that wider system; the live collections stay rooted where we actually walk and ride.
Tatra mountains (Poland & Slovakia)
The Tatra mountains sit on the Poland–Slovakia border. People often search for High Tatras, Tatra mountains Poland, and Tatra mountains Slovakia. It is the same massif, different approaches. Lakes, spruce belts, and sharp ridgelines define many of the days we shoot.

Beskidy / Beskid mountains
The Beskidy mountains or Beskid mountains are the forested Western Carpathian hills north and west of the high Tatras. The Western Beskids around Żywiec includes notable peaks like Babia Góra, Pilsko, Romanka, Hala Rysianka, Wielka Racza, and Barania Góra. They are all close to Milówka, CarpathianPrints' operational base.

Further southeast on the Polish side are the Bieszczady Mountains which are highland country before the range continues into Ukraine.

Where are the Carpathian mountains?
The Carpathians form a long arc across Central and Eastern Europe from Czechia and Poland through Slovakia, Hungary, Ukraine, and Romania, down toward Serbia. They are not one narrow ridge: Western, Eastern, and Southern Carpathians each have their own character.
Where are the Carpathian mountains in Poland?
On the Polish side the Western Carpathians include the High Tatras near Zakopane and the Beskidy (Beskid) ranges further west and north, including the Beskid Żywiecki around Żywiec and Milówka. That is where most of our Polish collections are photographed.
Are the Beskids part of the Carpathians?
Yes. The Beskids (Beskidy) are part of the Western Carpathians. The ranges around Żywiec and Milówka including Barania Góra country sit in that Western Beskid belt on the Polish side.
What is the difference between the Tatra mountains and the Alps?
Both are high mountain ranges, but the Tatras are a compact massif on the Poland–Slovakia border inside the Western Carpathians. They rise sharply above surrounding foothills, with alpine lakes, granite ridges, and short approaches, not the vast Alpine chain of Western Europe.
Where are the Tatra mountains? Poland or Slovakia?
Both. The High Tatras and Western Tatras straddle the border. Polish approaches often start from Zakopane and the Podhale. Slovak sides include the Roháče and Liptov. Our Tatra collections cover trails and roads on both sides.
What are the High Tatras?
The High Tatras are the highest part of the Tatra massif, classic peaks, tarns, and alpine meadows. Nearby Western Tatras (including the Roháče) are a little lower and wilder in feel, still firmly “Tatra.”
Do you sell prints of the Carpathian mountains?
